Funded by NASA's InterDisciplinary Science (IDS) program

Posted on behalf of William Sydeman, www.faralloninstitute.org :

We are looking for a post doc for a study of "life in a moving ocean" recently funded under NASA's InterDisciplinary Science (IDS) program.  The effort will be focused on the Sub-Arctic North Pacific (North Pacific Current and associated eddy structures), with an emphasis on biogeography of zooplankton (Continuous Plankton Recorder data) and seabirds (shipboard observations) in relation to currents and eddies using NASA satellite data products and model output (OSCUR).   The ideal candidate will have a background in spatial ecology/analyses, oceanography/marine ecosystems, and demonstrate promise as an independent IDS researcher (strong writing and verbal communication skills, strong team player).  Start date is flexible (fall 2017 to winter 2018), 2+ years, competitive salary and benefits, duty station in Petaluma, northern California.  PIs: Kathleen Dohan and Chelle Gentemann (Earth System Research, Seattle), Sonia Batten (SAHFOS, Nanaimo, B.C.), Bill Sydeman (Farallon Institute, Petaluma).  Queries should be sent to Bill Sydeman (wsydeman@comcast.net, wsydeman@faralloninstitute.org).
